The rehabilitation of the degraded areas at Raja Musa continues with this fifth tree planting day.

What to Bring
  1. STURDY, closed-toed shoes (eg. rubber boots or sneakers).
  2. Hat and suncreen.  
  3. Your own drinking water.
  4. Long pants that can get dirty.
  5. A bucket, gardening tools and gloves, if you have them.
For safety reasons, anyone wearing improper footwear will not be allowed into the planting zones.


Carpooling

  • Meeting Place:   A&W restaurant in Petaling Jaya (in front of Taman Jaya LRT).
  • Time:   7:00am  
  • Journey:  45mins to 1 hour.

   

How to Get There

   
     • Get onto the North-South PLUS Highway and follow the signs to Ipoh.
  • Exit at Bukit Tagar (EXIT 119).
  • After the toll, drive to the end of the road where you’ll reach a T-junction. (Look out for a sign board to Bestary Jaya).
  • Turn left at this T-junction.
  • Drive for about 5mins to reach the planting site. It’s on the right side of the road.

Wilding Collection at Sungai Panjang Peat Swamp

Wildings are “wild” seedlings that grow from seeds that drop in the forest. Collected wildings are an important source of seedlings for our planting days. 

The collected wildings will be raised in a nursery until they are mature enough to be transplanted into degraded peat swamps.
Overnight Camp (10 July) 

Volunteers have the option of camping overnight (10 July) with Forestry Department rangers. For more information, visit our Facebook page. 

Program

  • 5.15am : Assemble at A&W, PJ state. 
  • 5.30am : Depart for Sungai Panjang.
  • 7.30am : Begin collecting wildings.
  • 10.30am : Stop collecting and begin loading wildings onto lorry.
  • 11.00am : Depart for Sungai Buloh nursery.

  3. A bucket, gardening tools and gloves, if you have them.

This mangrove planting day at Kampung Telok Gong has been jointly organised by GEC (http://gecnet.info) and
the Sports and Recreation Club (IRIS Corporation).

1 hour drive to Port Klang

The species of mangrove that will be planted (Bakau Minyak and Bakau Kurap) are grown in Kampung Perajurit, a village located near the Mangrove forest.

What to Bring

  1. Your own drinking water
  2. Hat and suncreen
  3. Change of clothes
  4. Sarong (for use as portable changing room)
  5. Slippers
  6. Readiness to get dirty and have fun in the mud!

Carpooling

  • Meeting Place:   A&W restaurant in Petaling Jaya (in front of Taman Jaya LRT).
  • Time:   7:00am
  • Journey:  1 hour.

Please meet at 7am, at the A&W in PJ first so that we can car pool. Volunteers who are travelling directly to planting site should assemble in Port Klang at 8am.
